What does the course cover?
Students will learn to knot between pearls or semi-precious stone beads strung on silk-cord, using a simple tool called a “knotting awl.” Students will also be taught how to correctly finish their hand- knotted pieces and how to add a clasp. This is a classic time-honored technique for creating knotted necklaces and bracelets that any designer, whether she be amateur or professional, would surely want to add to her skill repertoire. It is also an essential technique to know for jewelry repair and vintage restoration.
Depending on the length of each student’s piece, and how quickly students learn the knotting technique, projects may or may not be completed by the end of class.
What do I need to bring?
Nothing but yourself and a desire to learn! However, if you have some beads or broken jewelry pieces at home that you would like to incorporate into your class project, please feel free to bring them along.
All necessary tools, along with coffee and tea are provided. Stringing materials and practice ribbon are also provided.
